Galatians 5:14
14For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
LOVE IS THE BOUNDARY
LOVE IS THE LAW THAT GOVERNS US
LOVE IS THE WAY OF CHRIST WHO CAN HEAL ALL WOUNDS
LOVE IS THE LANGUAGE OF THE FAMILY OF GOD
Can God step in and heal the hurts of this world?
Will God?
If not, then why not?
I don’t know.
That part remains a mystery. But what IS clear to me is the deep love God has for God’s children
God longs for us to be well.
God hurts when we hurt.
God is mysterious and unexplainable, but God is also somehow close and knowable.
God is mighty and powerful, but God is also loving and good.
We are ALL God’s children.
We are ALL made in God’s image.
We are ALL loved beyond measure.
Maybe that’s why Paul wrote this to the Church in Galatia so long ago, “For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Most of the problems in this world exist and are exasperated because people (God’s people) spend so much time, effort, energy, and resources drawing lines in the sand and disparaging the diversity that makes our world beautiful and worth living in.
What if we loved one another with the same veracity?
How is our current operating system working out for us? Is the world a better place? When we look around do we see the Kingdom of God that Jesus declared has come? Do we hide our fear and judgment and bias and prejudice behind spiritual-sounding phrases like, “speak the truth in love?” Or might we consider what it would be like if we just loved? Period. The way Jesus professes to love us.
Today I choose love.
LOVE.
It’s what God looks like, and I am made in God’s image.
LOVE IS WHO I AM.
Maybe today will be the day I start living like I actually believe this is true.
