This awkward, uncomfortable, and Good Friday
It’s Friday.
We call it “Good” but this is a dark day. It’s awkward and uncomfortable. Everything has gone silent. In faith, we trust there is hope on the horizon, but for now, all we can do is wait. For now, all we can do is sit in this present darkness… and wait. As we look upon the cross of Christ, we see the darkness of our own lives reflected back on us. We see the way that sin and death have broken a world that was created to be beautiful. We see the part we have played in its downfall. We long for all things to be made new.
Can it be made new?
We wait and we wonder if creation can once again be made whole. We wait and we wonder in the darkness.
In the silence of Good Friday, we wait.
At the foot of the cross, we wait and we weep and we pray.
Return to us, O Christ of the Cross,
Come and make all things new.
Come and make US new.
Give us patience as we wait.
Amen.
