Well-Intentioned Weapons

[NEW SONG OF THE WEEK]

[NEW SONG OF THE WEEK]
This is my entry in the weekly @wildwoodrecording songwriting contest. The prompt this week is to write a protest song. You can listen and download the Voice Memo recording (and a bunch of other unreleased songs) at https://threadbarecreative.com/track/4365722/well-intentioned-weapons-wildwood-week-28

IDEA BEHIND THE SONG:
Not all protest songs raise a fist.
Some simply say: “Let me hurt without being hurried.”

Well-Intended Weapons is a song for anyone who’s ever been met with clichés when they needed compassion. A protest against the pressure to skip grief and jump to healing.

May we learn to sit with pain, not solve it. May love sound more like presence than platitudes.

LYRICS:

VERSE 1
They're in a better place
God has a purpose and a plan
God knew from the beginning
How their life was gonna’ end
Now at least they aren’t suffering
It’s a time to celebrate
So, bury all your questions
And put a smile on your face

CHORUS
These are well-intended weapons
Words that wound, dressed up as light
You call it faith, I call it trespass
Where my grief should have the right
To question, hurt and wonder
And to feel the things I feel
Sometimes love speaks in silence
Sometimes hurt is how I heal

VERSE 2
Be strong for your family
Never cry in front of friends
Be grateful for the time you had
One day you’ll meet again
There’s a reason for this season
Something God wants you to learn
It’s a time for faith not weeping
No more worries or concerns

BRIDGE
No words can fill my emptiness
Or wash away my grief
I need love to sit and weep with me
And allow my unbelief
So I march against your platitudes
Though I’m battered, I might break
Link arms against the words that harm
Stand for my right to ache
